Scale
Original: 1 inch = 240 feet
Now: as marked on the maps. All maps were drawn to the same scale and all maps have the same area, so at
least in theory they can be treated as overlays of each other. All have been digitized and entered in separate
files in the numerical data base.Orientation
North is at the TOP of all mapsResidence Numbers
All residence numbers used on the maps correspond to the Residence Numbers that appear in the BEVRECS
manual.

abandoned prior to the beginning of the fieldwork, so the date on which I
mapped it is not related to dates occupied. Sites were identified by Jacob
Jones (013) and Billy Moss (009).Digitized in: Data Base File 03.

new camp, Lady Lewis (170), an occupant of Residence 41, died. All
structures to the right of the dotted line were destroyed or abandoned on
29 November and rebuilt to the left of the line. Hence all structures to the
right of the line are shown in approximate locations only. They were not
paced for mapping.Digitized in: Data Base File 08.

Map 17 Spinifex Bore Camp, Day 000 Location: 17 miles north of MacDonald Downs New Homestead Mapped: 4 Oct 1971 Note: This camp was occupied during my first visit to MacDonald Downs in December 1969. Subsequently it was abandoned and many of its residents participated in establishing the Gurlanda Camp at Johnno’s Bore which was the focus of my research. Sites in the Spinifex Bore camp were identified by Jacob Jones (013), Albert Morton (113), and Johnny Crow (014). Distances were not paced, but relative positions should be reasonably accurate. The actual density of residences probably was lower than the map suggests. Digitized in: Data Base File 19
