PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION
It is a condition of use of this web site that users ensure that any disclosure of the information contained in this site is consistent with the views and sensitivities of relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This includes:
Deceased Persons This website contains photographs and audio recordings of deceased Aboriginal people. Users of the website should be aware that, in some Aboriginal communities, seeing images of deceased people in photographs, films and books or hearing them in recordings etc may cause sadness or distress and in some cases, offend against strongly held cultural prohibitions.
Restricted Material This database contains sensitive materials that are not available to unauthorised users. Access to this material requires authorisation by the Principal of the Institute and the Alyawarra community.
Copyrights Materials included on this educational and non-commercial research website include original works of authorship, works reprinted with permission, works for which I have sought permission but have received no reply from copyright holders, and works that I believe (hope) lie within the fair use protection of the copyright laws. If any author or copyright holder objects to my use of any work appearing here, please contact me at wdenham@ncia.net or wwdenham@gmail.com and I will immediately review the propriety of including it.
I am grateful to Jessica S. Cornn of Alice Lloyd College for designing and implementing this website.

Group Compositions in Band Societies Database This folder contains 351 genealogical, demographic and census data files, in both numerical and graphic formats, from 41 hunter-gatherer societies for whom systematic and reasonably thorough records were made by reputable observers during the two centuries between 1776 and 1976. I extracted these datasets (except for the Alyawarra set) from historical and ethnographic sources that pertain to Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.
